The Daiichi Sankyo Group proactively promotes environmental communication with its stakeholders to prevent and resolve environmental issues by sharing information and fostering stakeholder dialogue about the environment. As part of these activities, the Group makes every effort to periodically share information and exchange ideas with local residents around its plants and R&D centers and conduct disaster prevention countermeasures in collaboration with them.
Engagement with Stakeholders
As part of its environmental communication activities, the Daiichi Sankyo Group took part in panel discussions, seminars, and other forums at which it explained its environmental management policies and initiatives.
・The Daiichi Sankyo Group joined a Science Based Targets seminar held jointly be CDP and Bloomberg L.P. as a panelist. At the seminar, we introduced the Group’s environmental management initiatives and climate change response measures, and an exchange of opinions was held with this regard.
・The Group’s environmental management initiatives and climate change counter measures were among the case studies introduced at the Science Based Targets and We Mean Business workshop help jointly by CDP and Japan’s Ministry of the Environment.
・The Daiichi Sankyo Group was a panelist at the FSB Climate Change-Related Financial Disclosure Proposal and Responses Expected of Japanese Companies summit held jointly by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and the General Assembly of the Ministry of the Environment’s Principles for Financial Action towards a Sustainable Society (Principles for Financial Action for the 21st Century). At this gathering, we introduced the Group’s environmental management initiatives and climate change response measures, and an exchange of opinions was held with this regard.
Environmental Managers Workshop
Every year, we hold group workshops for the environmental managers of Group companies in Japan. In fiscal 2016, a workshop was held on the theme of how to acquire to ISO 14001:2015, the international standard for environmental management systems, and how to go about receiving multi-site certification (six domestic plants). A total of 29 individuals attended this workshop.
In addition, training secessions were held for internal auditors at various plants in order to cultivate the auditors required for the acquisition of ISO 14001:2015 certification. Approximately 200 individuals underwent this training. Through these training sessions, we succeeded in deepening understanding of environmental management system implementation at plants.

Global Warming Countermeasures Training
In fiscal 2016, a global warming countermeasures training session was held with the aim of sharing information on energy conversation activities and global warming countermeasures. A total of 24 facility and energy managers attended this training session. Attendees took a tour of the TEPCO Electrified Factory I2 facility to view its energy management systems, heat pumps, energy-saving equipment, and other facilities; received a lecture from an external expert on latest trends in energy conservation measures that utilized examples of measures recently receiving awards; and exchanged opinions on specific initiatives.
Global warming countermeasures training session
We provide environmental e-learning programs targeting all employees in the Group in Japan. The theme for fiscal 2016 was “Basics about environmental issues and climate change.” The participation rate was 97.9% of 9,336 applicable employees. We also provided an optional e-learning program (“Basics about environmental issues and risk related to water”) and promoted this program targeting employees that had not participated in the previous fiscal year, such as new employees.
In fiscal 2016, we held environmental e-learning programs that targeted Group companies outside Japan, and approximately 4,000 employees took part in these programs.
Environmental Art Contest
Environmental communication measures are conducted to improve employees’ environmental awareness. Every year in June, which is designated as “Environment Month” by the Group, a contest is held for work that gives the viewer an impression of the environment. We solicit submissions of work from Group employees and their families globally.
For the fiscal 2016 contest, we received a total of 536 entries in the image category—333 works from Group companies in Japan and 203 works from Group companies outside Japan—representing an increase from 524 entries in the previous contest. In addition, we received 710 entries in the senryu (humorous or ironic haiku) category from Group companies in Japan while 34 works were submitted for the new slogan category that was introduced for overseas Group companies in fiscal 2016. We selected the grand prize and other prize winners and held award ceremonies for each region and Group company.
Raising the Awareness of the Need to Combat Global Warming
Each year, the three-month period from December to February is designated as a period for improving awareness of the need to combat global warming. During this period, we create a poster using the award-winning works from the Environmental Art Contest to raise environmental awareness. Copies of the poster are exhibited at Group companies and operating sites in and outside Japan.

We carried out the Daiichi Sankyo Group COOL CHOICE Program to raise the environmental awareness of all employees and to encourage them to practice eco-friendly activities not only in their workplaces but also in their homes.

About the Daiichi Sankyo Group COOL CHOICE Program
The Group has redesigned its eco-action program to coordinate this program with “COOL CHOICE,” a national global warming prevention movement spearheaded by the Ministry of the Environment in Japan. The resigned program is known as the Daiichi Sankyo Group COOL CHOICE Program.
In this program, employees access a dedicated website to fill out information on the eco-friendly activities they have been practicing in their workplace and in their home, with applicable activities including those endorsed by the “COOL CHOICE” movement, among others. By encouraging employees to review their own eco-friendly activities, we hope promote further effort on this front.
Employees are awarded points based on their activities through the program. These points can be exchanged for eco-friendly items or used to make donations to environmental organizations. In fiscal 2016, a total of 1,120 employees participated in this program, which took place during summer months from June to September 2016.
Coastal Cleanup Activities in the United States
At U.S. Group company, Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a total of 42 volunteers including employees and their families participated in the International Coastal Cleanup campaign by conducting cleanup activities along the coast near the company. In 2016, volunteers collected 107 pounds (approximately 50 kg) of garbage as they walked along a two-mile (approximately 3.2 km) stretch of coast. Volunteers from Luitpold Pharmaceuticals also plan to participate in these activities in 2017.
Tree-Planting Activities in China
Daiichi Sankyo (China) Holdings Co., Ltd., has continued to take part in tree-planting activities each year in conjunction with the planting day, March 12. In fiscal 2016, 20 employee volunteers participated in planting camphor trees (Cinnamomum camphora) in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park neighboring the Shanghai Plant.
These activities have been conducted each year since 2006, making 2017 the 11th consecutive year of this initiative.
